Revolutionary activist’s suppression during a meeting against suppression
Our organization wished to participate in a meeting in support of revolutionary prisoners. Indeed, we have been working for several years in junction with the Abertzale movement and wished to support and relay public political stancesadopted by former Basque prisoners that diverge from the conciliation policy led by the Abertzale movement leaders. The movements that endure strong suppression are consistently undermined by similar contractions and we deem those stances to be exemplary and meaningful beyond the Basque issue.
Going to this meeting was difficult for our organization, given the existing contractions with the Red Block (le Bloc Rouge) which was among the hosts. As revolutionary activists, also victims of suppression, close to former political prisoners, we nonetheless wished to participate in the meeting.
When we arrived, we were notified that we were refused access to the meeting, in the wake of a decision made by the organizing collective (CRI). A male activist grabbed one of our female comrade to forcefully throw her out. Punches followed afterwards and we defended ourselves. Our comrade was struck on the face several times, she was called crazy and a whore. We attempted to explain ourselves but were collectively labelled as wreckers.
We were chastised for assaulting Red Block activists.
It is true. During the May 1st demonstration in Paris, we came to blows with a leader of the Red Block because of the lie we had been told. The Red Block claimed the departure from their organization of a male member guilty of rape against one of our female activist and we realized that it wasn’t the case.
While one of our female comrade revealed having been raped by a fascist, another one of our female comrade, who had a political dispute with the leaders of the Red Block, was raped by one of them.
For many months after the fact, she and our organization were the target of harassment, endangering our ability to provide support to our comrade preyed to criminal fascist suppression.
In the aftermath, we had asked the Red Block to remove the activist who raped our comrade from their organization. We were answered that “their Comrade […] didn’t have the same experience of this situation”, “he doesn’t share the feelings of your Comrade of the facts detailed in your communication” and that it was of this basis that he “discredit the acts of violence of which he is accused, as he already did in the past”. However he “doesn’t call into question the words of your Comrade, no more today than yesterday”.
It is interesting to notice that the same arguments where used by Dominique Strauss-Khan during the recent Carlton trial for equally similar facts: “I do not call into question the perception she had of our sexual intercourse. But I didn’t experience it the same way. I believe that I must have a sexuality that – as I’m discovering during the case – is rougher than that of the average man. But I have the exact same sexual behaviour with every women.”
Bourgeois or proletarians, rapists always have the same explanation. They all legitimate patriarchal suppression. This independent suppression system finds henchmen in every social classes. Socialism cannot be complete without a fight to end patriarchy.
We, communists, fight against the patriarchal and bourgeois suppression. We refuse to not pick a side and to not oppose this violence. In France, 150 000(200 000)women are raped every year and a women died at the hand of her spouse or former spouse every 36 hours.
What happened Saturday 27st was an exclusion de facto of our organization from the Maoist movement because one of its activists was suppressed by rape and by harassment by another communist organization. Suppression, which just happened to be the object of the meeting.
We cannot accept female activists being wrecked, subdued by rape and torture within our organizations. We want free, independent women by our side and wish for our comrade to strengthen by our side and on the struggle we conduct. We therefore wish to participate in co-ed and women-only feminist self-defence endeavours.
We acknowledge that the power play tainted activist sphere is less advanced on those issues than the popular masses alongside which we work. And it is truly towards them that we turn and not towards allegedly revolutionary sects.
Now we know where we stand. Rapists and those ready to strike our activists to defend them are our enemies.
No rapists in our organizations, no organizations for rapists, for feminist self-defence & proletarian justice!
